Mission: Enhance the health, wellness, and well-being of all WCHD employees.
WCHD Wellness is the Washington County Health Department’s employee wellness initiative. WCHD Wellness is created and run by the WCHD Wellness Committee, which is made up of employees and is open for any employee to join.

The general objectives of WCHD Wellness are:
- To make healthy choices convenient and easy and reward them and make unhealthy choices inconvenient and do not reward them (but don’t punish them).
- To offer programs that will enhance the health, wellness, and well-being of all employees and to offer programs that address the needs and interests of the employees and the organization.

Smart Fuel: Smart Fuel is a 10-week nutrition challenge that provides tips and ideas to help you eat smart. There will be grand prizes for the participant with the most points at the end of the challenge. There will also be a raffle for a prize each week. The challenge starts January 14 and ends March 22. 1 Billion Steps Challenge: The American Public Health Association is encouraging teams across the country to work together to take 1 billion steps in 2019 by National Public Health Week on April 7th. WCHD has set up a team for employees. Employees can join during the challenge. There are pedometers available for employees who need one. Please contact Hannah Person to sign up.
Fruit of the Month: On the first Wednesday of every month, employees can check the refrigerator (main building 2nd floor lobby, BHS, and WIC kitchens) to find a sample of the Fruit of the Month and try a taste of a fruit you may not have had before.
Fitness Fun at Five: Starting January 10th, Get fit and have fun! Join WCHD Wellness every Thursday at 5:05pm in the 2nd floor auditorium for Fitness Fun at Five! Join in after work and follow along with a 20-30 minute walking exercise DVD for any level of fitness! No sign up is needed; just show up! View flyer.
Lunchtime Stretching and Meditation: Start off your week right by taking a short stretching and/or meditation break during your lunch! Every Monday, come join in at 12:30pm in the 2nd floor auditorium for 5 minutes of stretching and 5 minutes of meditation! Easy standing and chair stretches and guided meditations mean that anyone can participate with no experience required! Employees are welcome to participate in just the stretching or just the meditation portions if they’d prefer. Meditation starts at 12:35pm. Please note that employees may only participate during their lunch break. View flyer.
Wellness Information: The literature racks on the 3rd floor near Personnel and on the 2nd floor outside Nursing contain health and wellness information for employees to take or borrow. The following books are also available for employees to borrow: Walking 4 Wellness, A Good Night’s Sleep, Stop Stress This Minute.

The Washington County Health Department received a Bronze Wellness at Work Award in 2018!
