Dr. Alex Chen has joined the Washington County Health Department as the new Deputy Health Officer/Medical Director.
Prior to taking this role, Dr. Chen spent the past five years with the Baltimore County Department of Health as the Division Chief of Communicable Diseases.
His medical education is from the University of Buffalo School of Medicine, after which he completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Duke University Medical Center. Upon completing training, he focused on inpatient medicine, and served on the faculty at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and at Medstar Union Memorial Hospital. Dr. Chen also ran his own medical practice for several years providing home visits. In 2016, he entered fellowship training in Infectious Disease at University of Maryland Medical Center, which had long been a goal of his.
In his spare time, Dr. Chen enjoys bicycling, and also recently completed his first marathon.
