Effective September 24, 2019 the Washington County Health Department’s Catoctin Summit Adolescent Program has ceased to offer services. The program, a residential substance abuse treatment program for adolescents, located in Frederick County, has been in operation since the late 1980s.
The reasons for the discontinuation of services are: the increased availability of alternative, community based treatment services capable of meeting the clients’ needs, and ongoing difficulties recruiting and maintaining the skilled staff needed to operate and maintain a round the clock residential facility.
All current residents have been referred to an appropriate level of care in their home counties. Health Department clinical staff will follow up on the discharge referrals to ensure a seamless transition and continuity of care for the discharged residents.
The Washington County Health Department’s personnel office and the Maryland Department of Health’s personnel office have been working with affected staff to ensure a smooth transition.
